Very fast growing and drought tolerant, this tree has a multitude of uses.
It can be grown as a green manure, creating masses of biomass very quickly. It can be kept pruned to form part of a hedge, or fast growing screen, and can be used to control soil erosion, or to build soil quickly on degraded land.
As fodder it provides high protein food for livestock.
As human food the young pods are regularly eaten in Thailand.
Leucaena leucocephala is hardy to USDA zone 9.
The trees respond well to coppicing and are also grown for timber and firewood.
Some years ago Leucaena leucocephala was hailed as a miracle tree.
